24 Hour adventure...

I went to the hospital early Thursday morning so that they could hook me up to a Holter Monitor. I looked silly with all the patches and cords peaking out the top of my shirt!! LOL Don't worry, I will only show you those ones... but there are more around the top of my tummy too!!
I only had to wear it for 24 hours and then the hospital removed them the next morning. Haven't heard any results yet, but we will see.

31 Weeks and a check up

I met with Dr. Berry today, it was originally scheduled as my bi-weekly check up, but he also wanted to meet with me about the hospital visit. At first they seemed worried because my blood pressure was really high, but they waited about 10 minutes to retake it and it came out considerably lower!! :)

They listened to the baby's heart... perfect as usual! Dr. Berry said that Kyler sounded great, that I was measuring just right, and that I am doing very well!!! He just wants to make sure that nothing was missed with the assessments done at the hospital. So, he is having me set up with a monitor that I will wear for several day that has a button I will push when I feel those sharp pains in my chest.

So, on with the fun interesting part of hitting another week!!!!

The following (about Kyler) is from
WhatToExpect.com:
"So what's your little dove doing all day while you're busy feathering your nest for his or her arrival? Making faces, hiccupping, swallowing, breathing, pedaling with little hands and feet along your uterine wall, and even sucking his or her thumb. In fact, some babies suck their thumbs so vigorously while in the womb that they're born with a callus on their thumb (what a little sucker!)."

The following (about Mommy) is from WhatToExpect.com:
"Chances are your diaphragm is feeling a little cramped these days. Okay, a lot cramped. That's because your uterus is pushing up against it (and all the other organs in there), crowding your lungs and making it more difficult for them to expand fully. The result: Your body is spare on air and will be until your baby drops near the end of pregnancy in preparation for birth. But don’t worry: Your baby is as happy as a clam because he’s getting his oxygen from the placenta."

Hospital trip...

Sorry that this post is so late... things have been a little busy.

Last Thursday, 5-20-10, I was headed to the lunch room at work when I got three really sharp pains in my chest where I had been feeling the flutterings. I noticed that I was breathing fast afterwords, but I thought it was just because I got a little nervous. I decided to call the doctor's and while I was on the phone with the nurse I got another sharp pain and started breathing heavy again. She let me go so that she could speak with my doctor and give me a call back. Just before my lunch was over she called to tell me that Dr. Berry wanted me to go to the hospital.

I immediately left work, picked up my mom, and we headed to IHC where I would be delivering anyway. They took me straight from the ER to Labor & Delivery. I was put into a gown and was hooked up to a system that could monitor me and Kyler... here's a pic:

The top monitor is keeping track of me by watching for any contractions (which I did end up having one while I was there, but they said that is normal). The bottom monitor is listening to Kyler's heartbeat and movements. We were hooked about for about and hour and a half when the nurse came in to tell me that all looks good. She just wanted to call my doctor before they released me. A few minutes later she came in and said that Dr. Berry also wanted me to get and EKG while I was there. So, a couple of male nurses (awkward!) came in and hooked me up all over, did the EKG, and then left! I didn't realize how fast getting one of those was!

Anyway... they told me that everything looked good, that a woman's heart can over work itself during pregnancy, and that I needed to meet with my doctor soon. So, I had a couple more of those sharp pains that night and one the next day, but I have been good since then. I will be seeing my doctor on Tuesday, so we will see how things are going.

I want to thank you all for your prayers, concern, and checking up on me! I will continue to keep you posted of everything!

Love,
Eliese & Kyler

30 WEEKS... and some surprises!

Before I go in to what is ahead for Kyler this week, I thought I would let you all know about our last minute doctor's appointment that we had on Wednesday. I noticed on Tuesday that I was having a feeling in my chest that felt kind of like a flutter or knocking feeling. I called the doctor's office and they wanted me to come in the next day. Dr. Berry said that I am having heart palpitations but that everything was ok as long as I was not having any shortness of breath or pain in my chest. My stomach measuring was good, Kyler's heart beat was nice and strong, and everything seems to be going very well!

I also had my baby shower on Saturday (unfortunately, the same day as Kyler's great-grandpa's funeral) and had a very nice time. My sister, Lori, flew out to host the shower with my mom. I received a lot of wonderful gifts and am grateful to all who gave them! Love you all so much!!

Now... on to the 30 week update!

The following is from 3D Pregnancy:
"Big news for baby's brain this week: It's starting to wrinkle and fold and looks like something that grew in the back of your fridge. This is due to the rapid growth of your little genius's brain cells. Other highlights this week:

Fingernails and toenails are finally finished—causing his or her parents great fear and anguish the first time they try to cut those little daggers (it gets easier, we promise)! Plus, the bone marrow is completely in charge of red-blood-cell production now. Trust us, this is a good thing.

Baby is starting to shed his lanugo—the downy hair that was covering his skin. Now that he's chubbier and better able to regulate his body temp, he doesn't need to sport a fur coat 24/7.

"I spy an umbilical cord and the inside of my mom's uterus!" When your baby is awake, his eyes are now wide open and he's whittling away the hours looking around, checking out his rather dark, limited environs.

Your baby hasn't gained much weight or height this week, as most of his energy's been channeled to the brain. He weighs about 3 pounds and is approximately 15.5 inches long, about the size of London, not the city, Britney Spears' Yorkie terrier. Of course your baby is less hairy and way cuter!"

29 WEEKS!!

Well, there is a lot going on with Kyler this week... check out what the websites have to say!

The following is from WhatToExpect.com:
"His or her wrinkled skin is smoothing out as more fat is deposited under the skin surface. This fat, called white fat, is different from the earlier brown fat that your developing fetus accumulated. Brown fat is necessary for body temperature regulation while white fat (the fat you have, Mom) actually serves as an energy source.

Which explains why your energizer baby feels so…well…energized! Space in your baby's living quarters is now at a premium, so you'll be feeling jabs and pokes from elbows and knees mostly. But those kicks will be more vigorous than before (and also less erratic) because your baby is stronger and excitedly responding to all sorts of stimuli — movement, sounds, light, and that candy bar you ate half an hour ago.

And back to those kicks, who's counting? Actually, you should be. Now's a good time to start doing a kick count twice a day to make sure baby's doing just fine (plus, it's a good excuse for a rest). Lie down (preferably after a snack) and keep track of your baby's movements. You're looking for at least ten movements in an hour's time (don't forget to count movements of any kind — kicks, flutters, swishes, rolls, and so on)."

WHAT A DAY!!!!!!

Well, everyone... today was a big one! Not only am I exactly seven months along today, but I am also now in my third trimester!!! I can't believe that it has been over half a year since I got pregnant!

Also on the agenda today was a doctor's appointment. Dr. Berry said that my stomach size was right on measurement, that Kyler has a good strong heart beat, and that the baby is getting on my nerves... literally! LOL I have been having a lot of pelvic pain, especially at night and in the mornings, and when I talked to the doctor about it he said that Kyler's head is pushing against nerves that are causing all the pain. Apparently,
there are a lot of women who (like me) are in unbearable pain while just trying to role over in bed at night!

So, now that I am in my third trimester, the doctor has increased my visits to twice a week... this will be tough on my work schedule and my budget! Eeek!!

Here are some of the updates for this weeks baby making progress -

The following is from WhatToExpect.com:
"Your baby is settling into the proper position for birth, with his head facing downward (toward your body's nearest exit!). Your little work in progress is now about 2.5 pounds and almost 16 inches long. He's busy adding new skills such as blinking to an already impressive repertoire of tricks like coughing, sucking, hiccuping, and taking practice breaths. Your baby's sleep now includes the REM (rapid eye movement) phase — and that means he could be dreaming already (what do you suppose he's dreaming about?). Though his lungs are nearly ful
ly mature (so... you might breathe a little easier if he were born now), your baby still has plenty of growing to do."

The following is from 3D Pregnancy:
"You may have given a passing thought to what the new member of the household will be like (and by "passing thought" we mean obsessive rumination). Will she be a good sleeper? Will he draw on the furniture with a Sharpie? Get an inside scoop by pumping your own parents for information on how you and your partner were as kids: how much you weighed at birth, your first words the first time you cut off all of Barbie's hair. ... Your parents will get misty at the memories and you may, too. Maybe out of hope for the future, maybe out of fear for your leather sofa.
Your baby's eyes are partially open now and can blink. Truly superior babies can actually wink (OK, there is no way to prove that, but it's fun to imagine, no?) Your baby can also now become a shiny, happy person as she has begun having rapid eye movement (Get it? REM? Shiny, happy person?? We'll be here all week.)
Her eyes have color now, too. It may not be the color she ultimately ends up with, especially if they're light gray or blue. The eyes typically don't settle on a final hue until nine months after baby is born. "

What are you DOING in there????

Holy cow, does this kid likes to move around!!! LOL All day long he is kicking, punching, and CONSTANTLY moving! Sometimes I just look down at this big belly of mine and say, "Ky! What are you doing in there?"

It is so hard to explain how this all feels but, for posterity's sake, I am going to try. There are times when there is a thick, watery, whooshy feeling and all I can imagine are summersaults going on inside my stomach! There are other times when it feels like there is a small boulder (his head or rump I am guessing) stuck to one side and I have to re-situate myself to get comfortable. There are a lot of small kicks, but every now and then I see my a part of my tummy jump just as I feel a good swift kick from the inside! LOL

Although it can get repetitious and sometimes uncomfortable... I can't help but smile and marvel ever time at the miracle that is going on inside my body! I love every minute of it and I feel so blessed to be experiencing such a joy of having this wonderful child growing inside me and to able to meet him in just a couple of months!
